Eleven children ranging in age from 4 to 23 are mourning the loss of their mother, Rashida Lawson, 44, who died last Saturday of stage IV breast cancer.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, older siblings are now stepping up to raise the little ones and will act as mom and dad at the same time.

“Some people still have parents who tell you it’s going to be okay – it’s not,” son Kenneth Stone told the news media.” We don’t know it’s going to be okay. We don’t have parents anymore. We just have each other.”

Daughter Tamela Stone added.” We can’t tell them, ‘Hey guys, it’s going to be okay – she’s coming home.’ And I have to be honest with them.”

According to Tamera, Lawson “is the glue that binds us together. She doesn’t want us to fall apart. She doesn’t want us to worry about her.”

According to a GoFundMe page created for the family, their mother “is a very genuine and caring person.” She takes pride in raising her children the right way and doing the best she can for each of them.”

According to the fundraising page, the children’s father also died 10 years ago.

“As you can imagine, we were devastated,” they continued to write.

Tamela told Fox 2 that when the children noticed “her chest was leaking air,” they knew something was wrong and suggested she get checked out. That’s when she found out she was sick.

“She was fine, a week later, boom”, Tamera told the news media.

Last Saturday, Tamera and her siblings received “the scariest phone call of my life” and went to the hospital to see their mom. According to Fox 2, her heart stopped and she died later that day.

“We’re battling economic issues right now,” Tamela told the news media.” And considering the school is still there, we have to pick up where mom left off. Now we’re on our own.”
