Mom Accidentally Suffocates 4-Month-Old Son by Collapsing on Him

A mother who suffered a heart attack last Saturday collapsed on top of her infant son, suffocating him in what police called a “very, very tragic event.”

Larinique Meadows, 38, was at home in Arizona with her 4-month-old son, Denari, when she experienced what police believe was “some kind of heart condition [or] heart attack,” Tempe Police Department Detective Greg Bacon said at a KNXV streaming news conference.

Bacon said Meadows was actively researching the symptoms of chest pain on her phone at the time of the incident, and she died afterward, collapsing on top of her son.

“It’s very, very sad, and we mourn for that family,” he said.” So are our officers, and it’s a very difficult time for them.”

Meadows and Denari were found dead around 5 p.m. by the baby’s father, who had woken up to go to work.

“Dad was a very hard worker, he worked the night shift, and Dad came home from work the night before and went to sleep, and when he woke up, he found Mom on Denali,” Bacon said.” We believe it was around 11 a.m. that morning that he went out to do some errands and came home and went to sleep.”

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death for Meadows and Denari, but police believe the children died of asphyxiation.

Bacon said 911 was not called, and police are unsure if an attempt was made to make the call.
